What Kinds Of Rats & Mice Are There In Falls Church VA?
The most common rodents in Falls Church are House Mice and Norway Rats. Rodents such as rats and mice can carry harmful diseases. Diseases from these rodents can spread to people through bite wounds, by eating food or water rodents have contaminated, or breathing in dust with their dried urine or droppings that are stirred into the air. People can also get diseases from ticks, mites and fleas that have been feeding on sick rats and mice.
The house mouse usually makes a nest in stored materials indoors, but can also live outside, burrowing in areas around fields and lawns. Mice often become a problem in the fall when they enter homes to seek warmth. Mice tend to nest only 10 to 30 feet from their food supply.
The Norway rat digs and travels through burrows, and will nest underground up to 150 feet from its food supply. It can make a nest in your home by gnawing holes in sheds, walls, etc., or by squeezing through cracks and crevices in foundations, vents, etc.

How To Prevent Mosquitoes In Falls Church VA
Mosquito season is here and those pesky bloodsuckers are not just a nuisance, they can also transmit viruses such as West Nile, Chikungunya and Zika. Now is the perfect time to eliminate potential breeding sites in and around your yard where mosquitoes like to lay their eggs. Prevent mosquitoes around your home and neighborhood and protect yourself from their bites by taking the steps outlined below during the spring, summer and fall:
- Eliminate standing water. Tip and toss standing water from containers like tires, buckets, flower pots, corrugated drain pipes, tarps, bird baths, toys, etc. Discard containers or place indoors.
- Organize a neighborhood clean-up. Get rid of litter and debris, discard old tires and manage vegetation that mosquitoes may be using as hiding places.
- Keep doors and windows closed and make sure screens are in good repair.
While these precautions will help prevent mosquito bites, it is still important to watch out for the signs and symptoms of mosquito-borne viruses like Zika and West Nile. Symptoms of Zika include fever, rash, joint pain, muscle pain, headache and conjunctivitis (red eyes). Symptoms of West Nile virus range from mild (fever, headache, body aches or a skin rash on the upper body) to serious (high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, tremors, convulsions, weakness, paralysis or coma). Consult your physician if you think you may be sick with a mosquito-borne illness. Keeping mosquitoes away is not only good for your quality of life; it’s good for your health!

Falls Church VA
Falls Church is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Falls Church is included in the Washington metropolitan area. Taking its name from The Falls Church, an 18th-century Church of England (later Episcopal Church) parish, Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875. In 1948, it was incorporated as the City of Falls Church, an independent city with county-level governance status although it is not a county. The city's corporate boundaries do not include all of the area historically known as Falls Church; these areas include portions of Seven Corners and other portions of the current Falls Church postal districts of Fairfax County, as well as the area of Arlington County known as East Falls Church, which was part of the town of Falls Church from 1875 to 1936.
At 2.11 square miles, Falls Church is the smallest independent city by area in Virginia. Since independent cities in Virginia are considered county-equivalents, it is also the smallest county-equivalent in the United States by area. The center of the city is the crossroads of Virginia State Route 7 (Broad St./Leesburg Pike) and U.S. Route 29 (Washington St./Lee Highway). The primary roads serving Falls Church directly are U.S. Route 29 and Virginia State Route 7. The portion of US 29 through Falls Church is also coincident with Virginia State Route 237. Most of Virginia State Route 338 is also within Falls Church. Interstate 66 passes just north of the city, while Interstate 495 passes a few miles to the west.
